Hello Sunshine!
How was your long weekend? This long weekend came in rather timely as my power-packed non-stop action/work week came to an end on Saturday. And what's the best way to start a holiday weekend?
I guess we are all pretty familiar with eggs and toast for breakfast, and with the whole brunch theme getting more and more popular in Singapore; the once upon a time simple eggs and toast have now been " fancy-fied". And I'm guilty of fantasizing of runny eggs benny with hollandaise sauce, pancakes drizzled with maple syrup and the smooth creamy scramble eggs.........
But this weekend, I thought of having the original breakfast/brunch that originated from our sunny island, and something closer to our hearts.
"Uncle Teh-C jik pueh, one kaya lo-ti, 2 eggs"
I grew up eating Chin Mee Chin kaya lo-ti every Sunday after Catechism (Sunday bible class) and up till this day, Chin Mee Chin is hands down one of my favourite breakfast spots. Having breakfast here is like going back in time, when things were simpler and less chi-chi.
My favourite deal in this kopitiam, is the self-service cupcake and pastry shelf. Especially when you're getting hungry and impatient for your orders, you can help yourselves to the freshly baked custard tarts, cream puffs and cupcakes. Though the vanilla cupcakes come without icing, the aroma of these freshly baked babies were good enough to satisfy. And the custard tarts, are simply amazing!! The crust has a slight tinge of saltiness to it which goes so well with the custard.
In my opinion, Chin Mee Chin serves good comfort breakfast food. And you don't have a burn a hole in your wallet to enjoy a good hearty breakfast. That's why I love Chin Mee Chin!!
