Sunday at Flock Cafe

Happy days are when we have a good shoot day and unexpected early wrap, giving us a nice afternoon break. It's like we're rewarded extra time on our clocks!! 

We were shooting a party scene on Missy先生 set, so it really didn't feel like we have to drag ourselves to work on a Sunday. We had party food, drinks, balloons and best of all Thomas前辈 and 金姐 were rockin' the dance floor to line dancing mixes. They look so cute together ^^And mama baked her banana cake for our party too...yummo! So happy right!! When you get to eat, drink, dance, muck around around, and have fun all in the name of work #ilovemyjob!!!

They must be wondering why do I look so happy being at work!?!?!

Best of all is when all of us have fun on set and yet can finish earlier than expected. Happiness comes when you least expect it.

Being in the mood to try something new, I decided to pop into the nearby Flock Cafe at Moh Guan Terrace. Would this 1-year-old cafe still be considered as new? What other new cafes would you guys recommend?

Since it was a Sunday, and Sunday feels like pancakes day, I had to order their Pancakes, Strawberries and Maple Syrup (S$8.90). Which didn't turn out to satisfy my cravings. It was kinda dry and stale, probably made way in advanced hence not as fluffy.

Perhaps something savory might fare better instead. The Prawn, Avocado and Lemon Mayo Sandwich (S$12.90) might not look much but it was saved my visit here. The light and simple flavours and texture worked well with the warm and toasty panini bread. Crispy on the outside and warm and doughy on the inside. together with the creaminess of the avocado that is balanced with the tartness of the lemon mayo, and fresh prawns to give that crunch. This is one good sandwich.  

Coffee is from Liberty Coffee. The cappuccino (S$4.80) was decent, smooth and light bodied, perfect for an afternoon wake me up. 

Love the quaint vintage corridors and accessories along Moh Guan Terrace, and puts me in the mood for some cheesy photog opp.

The Tiramisu Hero

Last Friday, B. and I went on a "blind date" with 2 lovely girls from Love and Bravery. Felt like it was a "blind date" cos neither of us has met either of them. But we arranged a dessert meeting cos I've been meaning to thank these girls for sponsoring and putting outfits together for a recent shoot. These days, with digital convenience, people can work together and actually not meet or really know each other. But I still prefer some things the old fashioned way. Nothing beats face to face meet ups. On my way there, I was still wondering how I was gonna spot them, haha luckily there was only one table with 2 girls and 2 empty chairs. 

Anyhoots, it was a nice casual meet up with delicious desserts to break the ice. I like how desserts have this effect on people, and make strangers clique on some common ground.

I first chanced upon The Tiramisu Hero one day while shopping along Haji Lane in this little shop selling old school knick knacks. After my 1st jar, I was sold! The heroine behind Sir Antonio is by ablogger, whose blog I enjoy reading, Peggy , she's one brave entrepreneur and through her blog, it made me appreciate the sweat and tears that goes into the makings of the Tiramisu Hero. She was at the cliff's end, yet still took the courage to step out of her comfort zone. Initially, The Tiramisu Hero could only be found at selected cafes and through online orders. Before you know it, everyone had their eyes on this masked hero, and finally, a couple months back, Sir Antonio has a home on its own :)  

2 Thumbs up for the Heroine Herself!!

I really admire brave heroines/heros like Peggy who take chances and overcome challenges to pursue their goals, ambitions and dreams. Especially those who are so hands on with their whole journey. And when you see them mother their "babies", growing steadily and successfully, you really feel inspired by them and they deserve our support! I wish you the very best of luck girl :)

From the grassy green lawn, to the hanging ladders on the ceilings and unmatchy yet well coordinated wooden chairs makes you feel like to stepped into the whimsical home of this masked owner, Sir Antonio. We ordered the Strawberry Tiramisu, Milo and Original (S$7.90 each). Sir Antonio sure knows his way to treat his guests; creamy layers of mascarpone cheese and moist lady fingers contained inside little jars. Our favourite is still the Original, with the right amount of sweetness and slight alcohol to bring out the coffee flavour.

Oldest New Cafes

Every Sunday I look forward to my favourite paper of the week, the Sunday Lifestyle page, the FOOD section. Couple of weeks back they have a FULL 2 page spread on new DESSERT places, and naturally I was busy taking down notes, planning where to go first. Since I have yet to try anything from the oldest-new dessert enclave, I decided to head down to Everton Park. Everton Park is one of Singapore's oldest HDB blocks in Singapore, but this quaint little neighbourhood now houses the newest hipster cafes in town. 

Decided to try the latest addition to the Everton estate, The Audacious Cakery as seen on the Sunday Times Lifestyle, they recommended their Chocolate Souffle Tart (S$6.80). The chocolate tarts I usually have are sticky, dense and heavy on the cream, so I was rather curious to try the texture of a souffle tart. It was literally a souffle in a tart form. Light, creamy and still intense but not excessive. It's served with a crunchy chocolate base and a nutty biscuit top. Worth a try if you're around the vicinity! 

In my attempt to cafe hop, I headed down to Batterworks after the tart. A cosy little cafe that serves their goodies in bite size too, with their price ranging from S$2.50 onwards. I ordered their Apple Crumble, which I would say it's alright, nothing fantastic but very homemade in taste. It wasn't too sweet, so perhaps it might be a healthier choice?

Let's be honest, sometimes we suffer for fashion in those sky high heels (think 6 inch Louboutins with their slim and tiny peep holes). That's why, ballet flats will always have a special place in my closet. But then again, getting too comfy with the ballerina look drives me into a style rut. Not this time-thanks to this season's new crop of flats. Comfy, practical and this season's must haves skater slip-ons, loafers, sneakers to oxfords, is bringing out the "shoe-o-holic" in me. 

One of my favourite style icons has got to be Alexa Chung and her "I don't bother vibe" style. Her penchant for flats, sixties silhouettes, with hints of androgyny gravitates me towards her so naturally.

Totally drooling over these slick Miu Miu Loafers. No matter how you pair these with, feminine suits, skirts or skinny jeans, and perhaps a floppy wide brim hat, you'll look like you just walked out of the boutiques along Champs Elysees. All ready for some Laduree and macaroons for tea. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these will go on sale soon *and please be in my size*

Printed flats are another great way to spice up any basic outfit. I like how Miranda Kerr shows hints of her carnal instincts with either a leopard print flats or cardigan, paired with a very basic denim and black blouse/tee. Perfect way to dress down the loud leopard look without having to try too hard.

Couldn't resist the temptation of online shopping and all the subliminal priming of "MUST HAVES FLATS"...so I caved and bought me a Steve by Steven Madden white and black flats and sorbet pink Soludos suede sneakers. Can't wait to break into them. 

Sunday Brunch at Kudeta

Call me crazy but I start my Sunday brunches with planning a few days ahead. I'll get so excited and start checking out blogs, magazines, foodie app etc etc to check out where shall be my next mecca shall be. But who's judging when it's a Sunday brunch right! This is a completely #latergram post cos it's probably been 5 months since I enjoyed a lazy Sunday brunch, and recently I've been missing my favourite activity so much I decided to do a post on it and reminiscence on this sweet Sunday. It all started off when I came across an eye-popping post on the The Gourmet Estorie of Ku De Ta's Sunday Buffet Brunch *eyes go tink tink tink*

Since the Crab Benedict received many good reviews online, this shall be the 1st thing in my tummy. The fresh sea sweetness of the chunky crab panfried in panko topped with the runny eggs benny yolk is one good combi we don't usually think of with traditional crab cakes. 

I won't usually order fresh oysters on my own, but since my dining partners ordered some, ah wells..just eat! The ones that came looked refreshingly dressed, so I decided to have a go at it. The trio of freshly shucked oysters were accessorized with lemon juice, some minty basil sauce and salmon roe.  Fresh with a nice zesty touch to it.

Next up, I had the steak and eggs, it was kinda tough and nothing to rave about, unless you really want some hard core protein, I would say skip the steak. The Rosti was totally hard and unappetizing too.

Since the steak and eggs didn't exactly meat up to our expectations, we decided to have the black angus burger. The meat was nicely seasoned and juicy, however the melted emmental cheese was kinda sporadic to even taste the cheese. I really enjoyed the lightly salted chunky wedges at the side. I'm really in for a CARBISIDE!!!

Some say it's non-strategic to have Carbonara pasta at a buffet, but it's exactly cos I'm at a buffet that why I wanna have it. Cos it's usually smaller, meaning I get to satisfy my various cravings. However, you might want to share this one, despite the smaller portion, it's gonna fill you up real fast and my take on a buffet is SHARING and try as many different things as possible :)

The Spicy Beef Pizza comes with minced wagyu beef, tomatoes, onions, and a quite a fair bit of chilli for the heat. The portion for this one is substantial, like one of those you get at a tapas bar/lounge bites. It was kinda hard to wolf down the entire pizza with just the couple of us at the table. But I couldn't resist ordering almost everything cos the other table of 10 next to us had almost everything on the menu, and they ALL LOOK SO GOOD!!!

Last but not least, I also had my pancake fix. Fluffy buttermilk pancakes topped with sugared nuts and drizzle on some saccharine sweet maple syrup...ohhh la la the perfect way to melt a girl's heart.

And with all that food in me, I still had the stomach and guts to head for more desserts!! The cakes and were your usual sweets at dessert counters, but the mini lemon meringue tarts were memorably good! The tartness of it was a nice way to balance of a very very full morning. Thank God desserts were in bite size portions (One of the only things that were buffet portion). 

After 2 1/2 hours of non-stop eating, I think we stuffed ourselves enough for a week's supply of food. Definitely not something we can do often, but every once in a long long while, it's quite satisfying to just eat to your heart and belly's content and then proceed to a nice long after nap...

Hello Hello！我知道这个post逾期蛮久，但因为最近非常忙着拍新戏所以真的没时间post上网。上个月我们有这荣誉参与《星和无线电视大奖 2013》！几乎所有的无线偶像都特地来新加坡参加这精彩的颁奖礼。。哈哈甚至只能看看他们进出后台也挺开心的。

那晚，最紧张的时刻是当我必须上台帮忙主持游戏的部分！首次现场主持真不容易啊！那一霎那，当导演喊 “Rolling 3，2，1”， 脑袋突然一片空白，似乎是昨晚花了那几小时死背的台词都留在家里，没把头脑带出来。幸好有金刚哥的帮忙，给了我点信心，让我完成任务。虽然不是最佳的表现，但是个非常有挑战性的学习经验。。哈哈以后要真的记得呼吸，放慢速度，也许会做的好些。我曾经看过一句话：“遇事时，必须不消极，不紧张，不退缩”。也许让自己不紧张会很难控制，但不退缩而勇往直前，甚至如果做的不够好，也没关系，最重要是，奋力一搏，不要让自己永远坐在冰冷的板凳区啊！！

我感到很荣幸能在这么盛大的颁奖礼单独表演我的歌，而且是为演艺圈的阿哥阿姐偶像们现场表演，真的非常感触，也没想到会有这个荣幸。我打从心里感谢星和无线给我这好机会，让我美梦成真。
